Residents at a luxury Chorley retirement village are set to go on a creative journey through the decades as part of a programme to support health and wellbeing.

A four month musical tour recently launched at The Grange, an assisted living environment in the award winning Buckshaw Retirement Village. Activities began with a 1940s vintage afternoon tea event, complete with a traditional singer and themed fancy dress.

The journey will take residents through the 1940s to the 1970s, with a month dedicated to each decade. Each month will see residents take part in themed activities including games and crafts, with performers, live entertainment and celebration events.

The Grange activity coordinator Alison Evans, said: “We designed this activity around resident’s favourite decades to support memory and mental wellbeing. It is also a good opportunity to invite family members to join in with the activities and entertainment.

“The people who live at The Grange experienced many important milestones during 1940-1970, including childhood, marriage or raising children. We have designed the programme to promote happy memories and reminiscence, which are key areas to support to maintain healthy mental wellbeing in older people.

“Our first event was a great success and we are all looking forward to continuing it into the 50s, 60s and 70s, while having plenty of fun along the way.”
