Members of Bedfont Belles WI have been busy knitting, crocheting and creating ‘twiddle muffs’ for residents at Marling Court Care Home in Hampton. The knitted ‘twiddle muffs’ are ideal for residents with dementia as they are decorated with ribbons, large buttons or textured fabrics that they can fiddle with in their hands. The ‘twiddle muffs’ have been found to be a comforting distraction for residents with dementia who may be confused or restless.
“The ‘twiddle muffs’ made by the members of the WI are lovely and soft and irresistibly tactile” said Evelyn Repkovas Home Manager at Marling Court Care Home “they will certainly help keep hands busy and are a great sensory therapy tool for our team here at Marling Court Care Home”.
The WI have created so many knitted and crocheted ‘twiddle muffs’ that they will be shared with another Country Court Care Home in the area, Lyle House in Roehampton, will also benefit from this very generous donation.
The Bedfont Belles are keen to make more ‘twiddle muffs’ for other homes in the local area and are looking for donations of yarn, ribbons, buttons and trimmings which can be left with Marling Court Care Home. The Bedfont Belles WI meet on the second Friday of every month at the Royal British Legion, 72 New Road TW14 8HT at 7.30pm.
