Local dog owners from in and around Dereham ‘paraded their pooches’ at a special charity dog day held at Bilney Hall residential home in East Bilney, all in aid of a Norfolk charity. The team at Bilney Hall hosted the inaugural event in aid of the home’s chosen charity for 2017, Norfolk Lowland Search and Rescue (NORLSAR).

Lots of people attended to join residents in enjoying entertainment, stalls and refreshments, along with the main attraction, a dog show which saw dogs and their owners competing in categories such as ‘waggiest tail’, ‘most handsome dog’ and ‘dog most like their owner’.

NORLSAR also brought along some of its dogs in training to perform displays and gave information on the voluntary search and rescue services they offer across the county. A fantastic £450 was raised at the event which will help them deliver these life-saving services.

Home Manager Jenny Daynes said “The Dog Day was a huge success, and we are thrilled with the support we received and with the number of people who brought along their loveable dogs to take part in the event. Many of our residents love it when four-legged friends visit our home, so they were able to enjoy a wonderful afternoon.

“We were extremely lucky to have such beautiful sunshine throughout the afternoon – it was really lovely seeing so many members of the community spending time at Bilney Hall and meeting our residents. I would also like to thank the NorLSAR team for bringing along their dogs and telling our guests about their amazing work.”
