A jet setting resident at Meridian Healthcare’s Acacia Court in Pudsey was in high spirits this month when she celebrated her 100th birthday.
Centenarian Emily Procter, nee Pearson, fondly known by her friends and family as ‘Emmie,’ was born on 2nd April 1917 in Farsely, where her parents and grandparents were shopkeepers.
Sadly, her mother died during childbirth whilst her father was serving in France, resulting in herself, younger sister Beryl and brother Jack being brought up by grandparents for the first three years of her life until her father remarried.
Emmie married Frank in 1940 during the Battle of Britain following his tours of North Africa, Greece and Italy and they went on to have two children, John and Judith.
During the course of her life, Emmie trained as a typist and became a personal secretary working for a number of years at firms such as Stanningly and Farsley, before volunteering at the Pudsey Citizens’ Advice Centre and at the Pudsey Derby and Joan Club. She has been a life-long member of the Farsley Methodist Church.
Emmie and her husband travelled extensively during their marriage, holidaying in Europe, the Caribbean and the Middle East, as well as enjoying cruise trips before Frank passed away in 2012.
In addition to her two children, Emmie has four grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren who all love and adore her.
Emmie commented: “I had a wonderful day and really enjoyed the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s music that the entertainer played. My friends, family and the staff all made the day really special and the party and cake was terrific.”
Helen Fowler, care centre manager, at Acacia Court, added: “It was a pleasure to welcome in Emmie’s 100th birthday and listen to all of her exciting tales from trips all over the world. She is a fine example to us all on how to live a long and fulfilling life.”
Residents and staff at Acacia also extended their best wishes to Francis Moran, who celebrated her 101st birthday alongside Emmie and her family at the home.
